Our client requires a Power BI Analyst to support a large-scale data modernization and regulatory transformation initiative, focused on improving how enterprise data is collected, managed, analyzed, and delivered for operational and strategic decision-making. Responsibilities include Power BI reporting, dashboard development, data modeling, ETL, and analytics support across the full data lifecycle, enabling compliance oversight, performance measurement, trend analysis, and executive reporting. Resource will contribute to scalable enterprise analytics capabilities through secure, high-quality data products, visualizations, and actionable insights.
Resource will work remotely but must be available to be on-site when requested for meetings. Frequency of meeting could be up to 3-4 times (or more) per fiscal year. Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time. Work must be done from within Canada, due to network and data security issues. Resource is responsible to pay for travel to on-site meetings.

Responsibilities
- Design, development, and optimization of complex dashboards, scorecards, reports, and visual analytics using Microsoft Power BI to support business, operational, and executive reporting needs.
- Building and maintaining data models, semantic models, and ETL solutions using DAX, Power Query M, Azure-based data platforms, and SQL for enterprise-wide reporting and analytics.
- Integrating Power BI with Azure data sources and on-premises databases, while collaborating with business users, data architects, and data engineers to manage data pipelines and staging areas.
- Gathering reporting requirements and KPIs, translate ambiguous business questions into concrete BI solutions, and present findings in clear, executive-friendly formats.
- Administering and publishing datasets and dashboards in Power BI Service, including scheduled refreshes, alerts, row-level security (RLS), user access controls, and performance tuning.
- Conducting deep-dive analytics to identify trends, anomalies, and business opportunities, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and security compliance, and leveraging AI-assisted analytics to automate insight generation and data exploration
Mandatory Requirements
- Post-Secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Computer Science or related field of study.
- 5 years direct hands-on experience translating business requirements into analytical solutions and communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver end to end BI solutions
- 5 years direct hands-on experience designing, developing, and optimizing advanced Power BI solutions that transform regulated and complex datasets into actionable insights for policy, operations and executive reporting
- 4 years direct hands on experience in designing solutions to test, monitor, and audit data accuracy and completeness, both inside Power BI models and during upstream data preparation
- 4 years direct hands-on experience with a comprehensive set of visualization techniques and features that demonstrate both technical depth and storytelling skill using Power Bi.
- 5 years’ experience developing complex measures, calculated columns, advanced time intelligence using DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) in Power Bi
- 4 years’ experience implementing Power BI Service features such as data refresh, workspaces and row-level security (RLS)
- 5 years direct hands-on experience in analyzing large complex datasets to perform trend analysis, predictive analytics, and forecasting using Power BI and Azure analytics tools
- 4 years’ experience in presenting and storytelling to effectively communicate data-driven insights to executives and business users within a government organization.
- 5 years direct hands-on experience in SQL for data transformations querying, and analytical processing in large scale environments
Desirable Requirements
- 1 year direct experience using source code control (such as GitHub etc.…) approaches for Power BI artifacts
- 1 year experience leveraging AI-assisted tools (e.g., Copilot in Power BI/Fabric etc…) to accelerate data transformation, DAX generation, and report authoring. Proven ability to integrate Power BI’s native AI capabilities; such as AI Insights, Key Influencers, and automated anomaly detection to deliver proactive business insights.
- 1 year experience with Databricks Medallion Architecture (Bronze–Silver–Gold) and how Gold layer data products support enterprise reporting and analytics
- 1 year experience working with government datasets particularly Environmental Data (Water Licensing, Ambient Water monitoring), Transportation (Heavy permit loads) and Consumer licensing
- 3 years proven experience in building and delivering data products using Synapse Analytics including development of curated dataset and Power BI integration
