Our client requires a Machine Learning Specialist to be responsible for supporting the implementation of data initiatives and the client Data Strategy where data is utilized for the benefit of all Albertans through a coordinated ‘one organization approach to managing, governing and using data. Working within a team, this position is an expert, and plays a fundamental role in ensuring high-quality data analysis, modeling, algorithms, de-identification, synthetic data creation, visualizations and development of evidence for use across departments and with external stakeholders.

Resource will work remotely but must be available to be on-site when requested for meetings. Frequency of meeting could be up to 3-4 times per fiscal year. Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time. Work must be done from within Canada, due to network and data security issues. Resource is responsible to pay for travel to on-site meetings.

Mandatory Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field of study equivalencies will be considered
  • 6 years’ experience and comprehensive skills in using statistical and computer languages, e.g. R, Python, SQL
  • 6 years’ experience in building analytical and quantitative analysis models.
  • 6 years’ experience in preparing data for prescriptive and predictive modelling
  • 6 years’ experience with and understanding of different approaches and methods for data analytics and data science (e.g. complex statistical modelling).
  • 6 years’ experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) applied to data science or analytics, such as using ML for anomaly detection, predictive monitoring, or AI-assisted data transformation and automation.
Desirable Requirements
  • 5 years’ experience and knowledge of data sharing, data-linkage, de-identification, metadata, data quality, ethics, synthetic data and data literacy and how to promote use of government data.
  • 5 years’ experience combining raw data from a variety of data sources within and across domains.
  • 5 years’ experience in understanding complex businesses questions and framing the right analytical question to solve a business problem.
  • 5 years’ experience preparing visualizations, dashboards, and analytical models
  • 6 years’ experience with and understanding of statistical and data mining techniques to address key business issues.
  • 4 years’ experience working with large government datasets.
