Our client requires a BI Team Leader to oversee and manage the BI team in the development of reporting features utilized by business groups to create Self Service Reports for data-driven insights across various business functions. The team leader will lead the business groups in idealizing the reporting features, creating roadmaps to execute, and showcasing how the business groups can leverage the product.

This position is designated as a ‘hybrid position’ which requires the resources to work at the office (with occasional work taking place at other Client facilities) at least 20% of the week. An expectation to work at the New Westminster location and travel to other client locations in the Greater Vancouver Area as requested at consultant’s expense. Resource shall be available during the Clients standard business office hours between 7:30AM–5PM Pacific Standard Time.

Mandatory Requirements
  • An undergraduate degree in business or computer sciences, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Eight (8) years of related experience in full cycle of technology management and/or business transformation initiatives. Including ability to effectively translate business requirements into technical/ functional requirements and launching new features into production.
  • 5+ years of recent and hands-on experience in Azure and Power BI Reports:
    • Deep understanding of Power BI desktop and service, including report building, data modeling, and creating dashboards.
    • Expertise in Power Query for data transformation and M language for writing advanced queries.
    • Strong knowledge of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for creating complex calculations and measures in Power BI.
    • Familiarity with Power BI integration into other Microsoft tools like Excel, SharePoint, or Teams.
  • SQL and Data Management:
    • Proficient in writing complex SQL queries for extracting and manipulating data from various databases (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
    • Knowledge of database schemas, joins, indexes, and query optimization techniques.
  • ETL (Extract, Transform, Load):
    • Familiarity with ETL processes and tools for data integration and transformation, especially where large datasets are involved.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Data Modeling: strong understanding of database structures and ability to design efficient and accurate data models in Power BI and Cognos.
    • Ability to understand complex Crystal Reports data models to Power BI/Cognos.
    • Data Visualization: proficiency in creating visually appealing and informative reports using Power BI’s charts, graphs, and visuals.
    • Experience in creating interactive dashboards and reports that offer drill-down and filtering capabilities.
    • Business Intelligence (BI): solid background in BI best practices, report design principles, and storytelling through data.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Expertise in optimizing report performance, both at the query level and the report visualization level.
    • Familiarity with techniques such as aggregating data, minimizing query load, and managing large datasets efficiently in Power BI and Cognos.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience with Cognos reporting tools (e.g., Report Studio, Query Studio, Framework Manager).
  • Familiarity with creating and managing Cognos data models, dashboards, and reports for EAM.
  • Experience in a Unionized environment:
  • Exposure to Union organizations such as CUPE, COPE and CAW/Unifor is considered an asset.
