Our client requires a Data Analytical Specialist / Data Scientist to support the design and development of analytical data products & services to enable the client to better leverage its data assets support implementation of the client Data Strategy. Working within a team, this resource is an expert, and plays a key role in ensuring high-quality data modeling, applying algorithms, de-identification, synthetic data creation, visualizations and development of evidence for use across ministries and with external stakeholders. This role will enact the pillars of the Data Strategy by using data to benefit Albertans.
The successful candidate will be a Data Analytics Specialist / Data Scientist with a diverse range of analytical skills and experience in working in multi-faceted roles. The role may have aspects of any or all the following: data analysis, data science, data modelling, statistical analysis, artificial intelligence (AI) & machine learning (ML), strategizing, advising, data product design and delivery. There may be aspects of data engineering, technical analysis, and business analysis.
Resource will work remotely but must be available to be on-site when requested for meetings. Frequency of meeting could be up to 3-4 times per month. Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time. Work must be done from within Canada, due to network and data security issues. Resource is responsible to pay for travel to on-site meetings.

Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field of study equivalencies will be considered
- 6 years’ experience and comprehensive skills in using statistical and computer languages, e.g. R, Python, SQL
- 2 years’ experience building and deploying end to end analytical or AI enabled applications, from data ingestion and modeling through to user facing solutions using modern web frameworks (e.g., React.js, Vue.js, or similar), enabling intuitive consumption of data and insights.
- 6 years’ experience in building analytical and quantitative analysis models.
- 6 years’ experience with projects that involved data science, data engineering and / or AI.
- 6 years’ experience in preparing data for prescriptive and predictive modelling
- 6 years’ experience with and understanding of different approaches and methods for data analytics and data science (e.g. complex statistical modelling).
- 6 years’ experience with and understanding of statistical and data mining techniques to address key business issues.
Desirable Requirements
- 5 years’ experience and knowledge of data sharing, data-linkage, de-identification, metadata, data quality, ethics, synthetic data and data literacy and how to promote use of government data.
- 5 years’ experience combining raw data from a variety of data sources within and across domains.
- 5 years’ experience dealing with clients and explaining complex data principles in a thoughtful manner.
- 3 years’ experience designing and maintaining data pipelines, data analytics workflows, or data product workflows.
- 5 years’ experience in understanding complex businesses questions and framing the right analytical question to solve a business problem.
- 3 years’ experience preparing visualizations, dashboards, and analytical models
- 3 years’ experience utilizing big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) or cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, Snowflake)
- 3 years’ experience working with large government datasets.
